Pharmacological Effects | • Cardiovascular: water and alcohol extracts used in anesthetized dogs shown to lower blood pressure, dilate coronary artery, and increase perfusion to cardiac muscles • Anticoagulant: shown to inhibit platelet aggregation and prevent formation of emboli • CNS suppressant: shown to exert inhibitory influence on CNS • Diuretic: avicullarin given orally or via intravenous injection, demonstrated marked diuretic effect in anesthetized dogs • Antiviral: demonstrated inhibitory effect against many ECHO 6.9, coxsackie A9, B4, and B5 viruses |
Herb-Drug Interactions | • Anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs: should be used with caution in patients who take anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications • Diuretics: concurrent use with diuretic drugs may lead to increased elimination of water and/or electrolytes |
