| Pharmacological Effects | • Anti-inflammatory: oral administration for 10 days effectively reduced swelling in the legs of rats • Antihypertensive: water and alcohol extracts dilated blood vessels and reduced blood pressure in cats and rabbits; duration of action approximately 1.5 hours • Immunosuppressive: associated with inhibitory effect on immune system in mice; daily administration of decoction reduced both cellular and humoral immunities • Antibiotic: inhibitory effect against S. aureus, E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus dysenteriae, Salmonella typhi, and Staphylococcus albus  |
