Pharmacological Effects | • Antiamebic: inhibitory effect against amoeba in vitro and in vivo, but only at large doses; in one study, decoction at 1 g/kg for 6 days effectively treated amoebic dysentery in mice; however, treatment was ineffective when the dosage was reduced to 0.3 g/kg • Antibiotic: fresh juice, decoction and alcohol extract have all shown inhibitory effects against S. aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus dysenteriae, Salmonella typhi, Bacillus subtilis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Candida albicans, and others • Others: cardiotonic, sedative, and analgesic effects |
