Pharmacological Effects | • Sedative and hypnotic: alcohol extract and essential oil demonstrated marked sedative and hypnotic effects; also potentiate effect of barbiturates; sedative and hypnotic effect is approximately double that of Xie Cao (Radix et Rhizoma Valerianae) • Hepatoprotective: promotes generation of hepatocytes and prevents mutation • Antibiotic: inhibitory effect against S. aureus, Staphylococcus albus, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, and influenza viruses |
Herb-Drug Interactions | • Sedatives: concurrent administration with barbiturates will lead to prolonged sedation |
