Pharmacological Effects | • Cardiovascular: increases blood perfusion to coronary arteries, reduces risk of cardiac ischemia, prevents arrhythmia, and lowers blood pressure • Antiasthmatic: administration via intravenous injection inhibits constriction of bronchi and facilitates breathing • Gastrointestinal: administration via intravenous injection has demonstrated marked inhibitory effect on smooth muscles of gastrointestinal system in rats, cats and rabbits; inhibits contractions, relaxes muscle, and prevents spasms and cramps • CNS suppressant: administration in mice via intraperitoneal injection demonstrated sedative influence on CNS for up to two hours; exerts protective effect against metrazol- or caffeine-induced seizures |
