| Pharmacological Effects | • Antibiotic: extract has demonstrated inhibitory action against S. aureus, acid-fast bacilli, and some dermatophytes • Antidiabetic: administration of extract associated with initial elevation followed by reduction of plasma glucose levels in rabbits; extract especially effective in reducing plasma glucose levels raised by adrenaline • Adaptogenic: intraperitoneal injection prolonged swimming time of mice • Cardiovascular: associated with increase in heart rate, reduction in blood pressure, and dilation of coronary arteries • Antihyperlipidemic: administration of extract for 30 days showed marked reduction in triglycerides and cholesterol levels in rats  |
