Pharmacological Effects | • Antiparasitic: filmarone has marked antiparasitic effect against tapeworm; in in vitro studies, preparation of Guan Zhong effective against roundworms in pigs; decoction effective against liver flukes • Antibiotic: mild to moderate inhibitory action against Bacillus dysenteriae, Salmonella typhi, E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Diplococcus meningitidis, and S. aureus; strong inhibiting influence on influenza virus, adenovirus, encephalitis B, and herpes simplex virus; also has antineoplastic effect • Uterine stimulant: decoction associated with contraction of uterus; increases both frequency and strength of uterine contractions in rabbits; similar characteristics observed in use of alcohol extract |
